Mummy's boy: Justin Bieber cuddles up to the woman in his life... mother Pattie

By ANDREA MAGRATH

Mother and me: Justin Bieber showed his affection for mother Pattie Mallette as they left the Late Show with David Letterman in New York last night

He is followed everywhere he goes by crowds of screaming girls, and has flirted outrageously with a series of famous older women including Rihanna, Kim Kardashian and Katy Perry.

But last night Justin Bieber reminded everyone exactly who is the number one woman in his life by cuddling up to his beloved mother Pattie.

The pop star and his 34-year-old mother were leaving the Ed Sullivan Theatre in New York where he had just taped an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman.

The 16-year-old was dressed in his trademark jeans, high top runners and jacket with the collar pulled up, while Pattie was dressed more appropriately for the bitter New York weather in a puffy coat and scarf.

While he has been seen on dates with Disney star Selena Gomez in recent months, mother Pattie - who raised him alone - is his number one.

Miss Mallette appeared to be enjoying the affectionate display from her son who is at an age when many boys wouldn't be caught dead cuddling their mother in public.

The single mother, who had Justin when she was 18, accompanies him everywhere and ensures that he remains down to earth despite his huge fame.

The Baby singer recently revealed to BBC Radio 1 host Fearne Cotton that he is prone to the same punishments and squabbles with his mother as any other teen.

He said: 'We argue yes, I think every parent and son argue, but I love my mom.

I think it’s good she travels me, but sometimes I need a break because I’m with her 24/7 but I love her, I like being with her.

'The other day she cancelled my phone plan. We got into an argument about something stupid, and she was like, "Give me the phone" and I was like, "No", so she just went and cancelled it.'

And appearing on David Letterman's show tonight, the 11th form student told how he is made to do his school studies for three hours a day.

Asked by the host if: 'Year 11 means sophomore in school?' he replied. 'I don't know. I'm Canadian.'

The keen social networker had earlier written on Twitter somewhat sarcastically: 'Ok time to go to school. So excited. School is amazing. Love doing math and reading. Nothing is better. Nothing.'

Bieber also showed Letterman how to tweet, writing during the interview to his almost seven million followers: 'I'm hanging out with my Dave at @late_show we need to get him twice as many followers!'

After leaving the studio in New York Justin and his entourage hopped on a plane to Toronto, where he is set to attend the premiere of his new 3D fly-on-the-wall film Never Say Never.

While his hectic schedule is a lot for a teen to handle, Pattie is understood to believe that her son's career keeps him out of trouble.

Bieber's manager Scooter Braun said recently: 'I think his mother feels that if they were still in Stratford, Ontario, he'd be getting himself into a lot of trouble.

'Justin doesn't study the people who made it. He studies the people who haven't,' Braun told CTV News.

'The general feeling we get is that it had nothing to do with their talent and everything to do with their personal life. Like the kids who fall into drugs and destroy their own trajectory.

'He realises that if he grows up to be a good man, he's going to be able to handle the pressures that come with a position like this.'

And Justin certainly seems to have retained the values that many child stars lose when immersed in the heady world of celebrity.

Justin appeared on an episode of Extreme Makeover Home Edition this week to surprise a family who were in need of a new home.

The Brown family in Texas had a house that was falling down and a tragic story to tell.

Their 17-year-old daughter Alexandra was killed in an accident after texting while driving.

The family set up the Remember Alex Brown Foundation which highlights the dangers of texting and driving to school children across the country.

They dedicated the past year of their lives to the cause, driving the truck wreck from Alexandra's accident to schools nationwide, and now need help to rebuild their crumbling home.

Time for his fans: The Baby singer took time out to give a performance and pose for pictures with the family's 12-year-old daughter

Justin surprised the three family members, Jeanne, Johnny and 12-year-old Katrina, along with some of her friends, at the sound check for his concert nearby.

The family were invited to watch the rehearsal performance where Justin sang and danced before announcing to the Browns that one dollar from each ticket sold was being donated to their foundation.

He also signed their Don't Drive And Text Pledge and took photos with Katrina.
