Hands on father Ricky Martin lives la vida tranquila with his twin water-babies

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Quality time: Ricky says he wants to be a hands-on father. 'I want them to be 15, 16 and say, "Daddy, you were always there with us and for us,"' he told Oprah

He once famously lived the crazy life. But now contented father and Livin' La Vida Loca singer Ricky Martin is happier to take life at a calmer pace.

The 38-year-old allowed chats show host Oprah Winfrey's cameras to follow him and the toddlers, who were born by surrogate in 2008, as they frolicked on the beach, splashed about in their pool and played board games at their Miami Beach home.
And it's clear they are natural water babies.

The idyllic family life has been made all the more blissful, as the Puerto Rican singer reveals he is in a relationship.

Martin sat down with Oprah for a tell-all interview for the first time since coming out in March this year.

He says his children were the reason behind his life-changing decision to confirm his sexuality, which has long been the subject of speculation.

'I guess the most important thing is my children,' he reveals in the episode which aired in the US yesterday.

Precious: The Latin superstar says toddlers Matteo and Valentino gave him the strength to come out as a gay man earlier this year

'When I was holding them in my arms I was like 'What? Am I going to teach them how to lie?''That was my blessing right there. Then, when I was holding my children, I said "Okay, it's time to tell the world".'

'My kids gave me all the strength to come out,' he said. 'I had to because first of all I couldn't take it anymore, but they gave me that final push.

'I don't want my family to be based on lies. I want to be transparent to them, I want them to be proud of their dad, of their family.

'I always wanted to be a father. I have a beautiful relationship with my dad and beautiful memories. I always knew I as going to have a family.'

He may live a life of luxury in a Spanish-style oceanfront mansion in Miami Beach but these days, material things mean far less.

'I've been around world for the last 15-20 years, stayed in expensive, luxurious hotels, the limos, the private jets, but that's not important,' he said.

'What's important is when we look into each other's eyes we bond, we are comfortable.
'I've created a beautiful dynamic energy and that's what's important. I've only accomplished that with my children.'

'I'm a hands-on dad. ... I want them to be 15, 16 and say, "Daddy, you were always there with us and for us."
'The simplicity that they bring to my life is vital.'

Simple things: The star says his life of private jets and luxury are no longer important compared to his bond with his children

Deciding on a surrogate wasn't a decision he took lightly, taking time to vet the woman involved and learn about her motivation.

'We wanted to do it all privately and also some mothers carrying babies prefer it that way, and she wanted to keep it simple,' said Martin.

'She's a married woman who wanted to carry the babies and go on with life.
'I first interviewed her on phone and asked her why she does this.

'She said 'Because I'm very spiritual and I've never felt closer to God than when I give the gift of life to someone who can not do it alone. I said 'You're the one!''

Living a lie is a thing of the past these days and Martin says he intends to be as open and honest with Matteo and Valentino as they grow up.

Love happens when you least expect it: Ricky Martin revealed in his conversation with Oprah that he is finally in a happy relationship with another man

Asked how he would explain details of their birth in later years, he said: 'They'll ask. I'm gonna tell them 'I wanted you in my life so bad that with the help of God everything lined up for you to be in my life'.

'My family is based on love. 'I love you and you love me that's most important thing'.

'Every family is different. I am mom and I am dad and I'm going to do my best. You should be proud, walk through life saying I have the coolest family. I am part of a modern family.'

The star has also opened up about a new love in his life. 'I am in a relationship right now, it feels amazing,' he told Oprah.

'I'm in a very beautiful relationship. Love happens when you least expect it. I wasn't looking for it in any way, shape or form.

'I was very happy the way I was, but all of a sudden they were just there, and make you feel things.
