That's a pretty Wilde outfit Olivia! Actress sports bizarre tiny pink hotpants and furry legwarmers (but it's only for a film role)

Sad: Sexy star Olivia Wilde looks despondent as she fails to give away a free hug despite her fashion forward outfit while filming Free Hugs in California today

She may be one of Hollywood's hottest actresses, but it seems Olivia Wilde's fashion sense deserted her today.

Luckily, the star's bizarre ensemble of tiny satin pink shorts, strapless blue top and outlandish furry leg warmers was only for a film role.

The 27-year-old star looked like she was channelling the 1980s as she filmed the scene in the Glassell Park area of Los Angeles, holding a sign which read 'free hugs.'

Please: A desperate Olivia starts begging passersby in an attempt to give someone a tight squeeze

The Cowboys and Aliens actress topped off the look by plastering her face in make up and wearing aqua blue running shoes.

Eventually she was able to strongarm someone into wrapping their arms around her by opening her arms and demanding a hug, with some equally outrageously dressed pals giving her moral support.

Today's scene will form part of the star's directorial film début Free Hugs in which she also stars.

Little is known about the vanity project flick, but she has written on Twitter about the demands of being a director.

Finally: A fellow misguided fashion victim gives Olivia a break and wraps her arms around the sizzling A-lister

She said: '5am call. I'm sleeping with the director and i still can't catch a break?
'P.S, I'm the director. why didn't i write a story about sunsets?'

She has came a long way from her early days, where she earned notoriety by playing bi-sexual bad girl Alex Kelly on the O.C.

Her character had affairs with both Adam Brody's Seth Rogan character and Marissa Cooper, who was played by Mischa Barton.

Although she is American, she holds dual Irish citizenship through her journalist father Andrew.

Her real second name is Cockburn, but she changed it to honour Irish writer Oscar Wilde.
