Harry Potter is on the way to his biggest magic act yet.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 conjured up $61.2 million in U.S. sales in its first day, positioning it for the best opening weekend ever for the series about the young wizard.
This means it will do even better than the franchise's previous high, a $102.7 million opening weekend for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in 2005.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Deathly Hallows could make up to 156 million dollars over the whole weekend, 'Which as Ron Weasley would say, is "bloody brilliant,"' its box office analyst says.
In the new film, Lord Voldemort and his evil henchmen have taken control of the wizarding worldand Harry is in constant danger.
Danger: Harry Potter and the gang will face danger and adventure in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1
Harry, Hermione and Ron leave Hogwarts behind them to go out into the world and find and destroy horcruxes, items in which Voldemort has hidden pieces of his soul.
The film focuses on the close friendship between the three main characters, particularly on the budding romance between Hermione and Ron.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is due out in July.
