RAIN CANNOT DAMPEN SPIRITS ON TEMPLE TRIP
On a break from rehearsals, 50 Miss World contestants took the opportunity to visit the historic Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone, where they stood at the feet of a gigantic white and bronze statue of Buddha.
Built on a man-made island just off the Hainan coastand rising to 108 metres, it is the talleststanding Buddha statue in the world.
The girls were visiting the famous Nanshan temple complex to soak up the atmosphere of peace and harmony. Despite intermittent rainfall, the girls were all smiles and laughter as they toured the tourism zone in a fleet of train cars.
“I have seen many statues of Buddha but this one was so big,’ said China. “I was not expecting it to stand so tall. It was very impressive.” Thailand, who took the chance to kneel and pray before the statue, was equally in awe of the statue. “We are also a Buddhist country and this is really a special honour to be here to show my respects to Lord Buddha.”
Back at the hotel, the contestants continued an evening of choreography before getting a well-deserved night of rest.
